Brother Ali: Shadows on the Sun

Producer: Ant
Features: Slug

This is the Brother Ali's debut album, one of the most proeminent names in american underground. A curiosity about him: this guy is an albino, and even talks about it on one of his songs. Ali is one of the most acclaimed emcees in the last years, releasing two albm very praised. His flow is pretty dope, his delivery is emotion-filled in every word, and he touches very subjects in his verses.

Shadows on the Sun is entirely produced by Atmosphere's producer, Ant, who does a great work, laying hard beats, with a perfect sample choice, giving to each track a unique feel. Ant uses samples from diverses genres, like an Brazilian acoustic guitar and country music. And Ali doesn't lose any beat: in the funky "Room With View", he shares his vision about Minneapolis, the city where he was raised; the music country-based "Win Som Lose Some" sees Ali adding a humerous touch to his rhymes; "Pay Them Back" talks about the rap game e has a haunting vocal sample; But, when Ali gets more personal in his rhymes, the true standout tracks appears: in "Forest Whitiker", Ali talks about his albino condition in just sixteen bars; "Picket Fence" has a more dark approach about his condition, as Ali deals with personal problems such racism and family feuds.

This work shows clearly the great potential Brother Ali has. He is a emotional emcee and a life example, which certifies him as a true artist. Helped by a flawless production, Ali steps in the rap game to gain his space.
